Almost 100 degrees over the weekend when we met in Becket, MA to work on restoring Joseph Pilates Original Studio and Apparatus. That’s some dedication!
We accomplished a lot over the weekend, including installing the new ceiling in Joe’s original studio, insulating the ceiling, and the beginning of installing the cedar paneling along the walls.
One of our other tasks this weekend has been to clean Joe’s original apparatus in preparation to display it on the museum side of his restored studio. The display will debut at Pilates at The Pillow Fall 2019! Between the trees outside and the wood on the walls inside the studio will truly embody the country that Joe loved to visit to rest and to work.
A highlight of my pilates career!
One of our works in progress: the “Return to Life” of one of Joe’s original wooden reformers from his 8th Avenue NYC studio.
The details on this original reformer are fascinating, including many new and amazing discoveries about this apparatus as Joe had it built, painted, and designed. MOST fascinating was the discovery of the original plaques on the reformer, including the oldest plaque to date that was previously unknown to the majority of the pilates world.
SO excited to debut and present the details of this information, not only at Pilates at The Pillow™️ this fall, but also in our historical lecture, “The History of The Apparatus” at Pilates at The Pillow™️ April 2020.
Once the studio restoration is completed, visitors will be able to view this iconic piece of pilates history, fully restored.
This fall, attendees at Pilates at The Pillow™️ will have a chance to see it and hopefully it will even be ready to try out.
As always, The Pilates Source™️ is thrilled to bring you these exclusive opportunities and information!
Pictured here are Joe’s original Electric Chair, Reformer, Cadillac and Massage Table. Additional apparatus under restoration is Joe’s Original Small Barrel and Junior Reformer. What a rewarding process! It is all so beautiful!!
