Past Workshops

Rhinebeck Pilates offers continuing education workshops for Pilates teachers and serious students. Our workshops and seminars are greatly beneficial to all pilates instructors from all schools of Pilates who want to gain a deeper knowledge of Classical Pilates. Our studio is conveniently located in the Hudson Valley, between Poughkeepsie and Albany, New York. We have hosted many well-known teachers such as Sean Gallagher, Junghee Won, Simona Cipriani, Jennifer DeLuca, and Enja Schenck. The Lost Art of Joe’s Work: The Ped-o-Pul and the Resister™ with Elaine Ewing

In this workshop we will practice and learn Joseph Pilates’ original exercises and sequences on two of his apparatus- The Ped-o-Pul and The Resister.  We will start with learning some of the history behind each of these pieces, as well as study Joe’s written descriptions for each exercise, photos or drawings of Joe demonstrating each exercise, the order he intended, breathing, a specific count, and his written descriptions about the apparatus itself.

The Classical Syllabus® with MeJo Wiggin: Intermediate II and Advanced

In this unique series, MeJo will share her years of study with several first generation instructors including Romana Kryzanowska, Sari Mejia Santos, Kathy Grant, Edwina Fontaine, and Jay Grimes. She will provide valuable training from her years of study with Romana, her personal experience teaching the Method to various populations, and her experience as a Teacher Trainer in Romana’s Pilates Instructor Training Program.

This presentation teaches the Pilates Instructor how to work hands-on with their clients. The practice of Pilates is often detached with the instructor simply directing the client with verbal commands to exercise.

SWEDISH BARS WORKSHOP WITH SIMONA CIPRIANI

The Swedish Bar exercises, as taught by Roman Kryzanowska, provide an important stepping stone for the cadillac, barrels and guillotine. For this workshop you will learn new sequences, progressions and modifications. Take these back to your clients and give them what they need to take their Pilates to the next level! Or, get inspired to buy a set of these for your studio to introduce some new stretches and exercises to your clients.

Touching and Spotting with Junghee Won

Understanding the Dynamic Spine with Sean Gallagher

Understanding the dynamic spine from an orthopedic, osteopathic , physical therapy, and contrology standpoint from the early 1900’s to what is considered current today.We will discuss scoliosis, osteoporosis and osteopenia, degeneration disk and joint disease, boney anomalies and other issues related to the spine. Using old and new photographs from multiple sources we will visually explore the different exercises, braces, apparatus and surgical interventions used though out this time period to address spinal issues. You will learn how look for and see skeletal imbalances inside and outside the spine that are common causes of spinal dysfunction. You will learn what you can change easily and what you can not in the work you do. We will explore the different ways you can use the apparatus to address the musculature imbalances seen in spinal and other skeletal variations as well as how to teach your client traditional or modified exercises that can have an effect on all of these different syndromes and issues.

The History of Exercise with Sean Gallagher

Join us in learning the history of exercise with Sean P. Gallagher, BFA, PT, CPT, CFP, EMT, MS. We will look at old pictures of yoga, german and swedish gymnastics, phys ed, PT, and then discuss the similarities of them with pilates as well as the differences.  This workshop will give us a real insight as to where Joseph Pilates got the ideas behind his exercises and equipment, and teach us what was going on in the world of exercise before Joseph Pilates’ method.
