Pilates Instructors
Elaine began practicing pilates in 1998, and has since become a fully certified instructor. She is certified through the Ellie Herman certification program, taught by Erica Essner and Jessie Zalla. Since then, she has studied and practiced pilates extensively through workshops and classes taught by master teachers Bob Liekens, Alycea Ungaro, Irene Dowd, Jennifer DeLuca, Caitlin Cook, Michael and Ton, and Juliet Harvey, to name a few.
In June 2008, she attended the Mount Sinai’s FAMI workshop, a renown workshop about functional anatomy for movement and injuries (FAMI), taught by anatomists, physicians, and expert pilates and yoga instructors.
In 2009, Elaine became a certified Walk-ilates instructor. Improper walking and running biomechanics are the main causes of aches, pains, and injuries. Walk-ilates classes begin with special releases and stretches using the foam roller, followed by Pilates Mat exercises using the magic circle and standing balances. The class then moves outside for a cardiovascular walk, where proper gait and optimal alignment are stressed.
Elaine’s style of teaching is not only influenced by her studies with pilates teachers, it is also heavily influenced by the Alexander Technique, which she has practiced for six years and currently studies with her teacher, Judith Muir. She has also studied extensively with Hope Gillerman in NYC and Joan Arnold in Ancram, NY.
Prior to running Rhinebeck Pilates, Elaine taught at various studios in Brooklyn, Manhattan, the Hamptons, and the Hudson Valley. She continues to teach pilates mat classes at Columbia-Greene Community College, in Hudson, NY.
When she is not teaching or doing pilates, Elaine enjoys running, hiking, taking yoga classes, and gardening. Besides staying active, she enjoys creating art in her home studio, playing with her dog, Ernie, and renovating the house that she shares with her husband, Eric, in Hudson, NY. Shannon Flynn-Boenig graduated from DeSales University with a BA in Dance and a BS in Psychology. After experiencing the benefits of regularly attending Pilates classes, Shannon's curiosity grew. This interest led her to study the Pilates Method in depth for her final senior project. Shannon had the privilege of studying the classical system under Bob Leikens, Phoebe Higgins, Susan Moran and many other senior instructors at Power Pilates. Shannon is a certified teacher through Power Pilates in New York City.
Shannon lives in Poughkeepsie with her husband and new baby boy.
Terianne graduated from SUNY Brockport with a B.S. in Studio Art: ceramics concentration and minors in dance and art history. As a dancer, Terianne was exposed early on to pilates as a dance conditioning resource. After graduation, Terianne began her personal study of the pilates method, taking classes with a variety of teachers in the Hudson Valley area, as well as voluntary class observation. Shortly after, Terianne received her Power Pilates Beginner Mat Certification in NYC with Susan Moran-Perich and the Power Pilates Comprehensive Teaching Certification with Julie Harvey in Beacon, NY.
Terianne loves moving, finding time to run, hike and dance around whenever possible.
Jill has always been very active – she grew up playing golf, loves to run and since she moved from the Midwest to the lovely Hudson Valley she has taken up hiking as well. A few years back, she began running and has since competed in a number of half marathons & 5Ks in several states. After pursuing a mortgage sales career for 5 fast-paced and stressful years, she decided to leave that behind and turn her passion for exercise into a career – a much healthier one! In 2007, Jill became an AAPT Certified Personal Trainer and AFPA Pre/Post Natal Exercise Specialist in New York City where she has been training clients privately ever since. Always exploring different ways to train & stay fit, Jill discovered Pilates. She has enjoyed the strength and flexibility she gained from adding Pilates to her exercise routine and looks forward to offering these same benefits to her clients. Jill is certified to teach pilates through Core Pilates NYC.
Jill lives in Hopewell Junction with her husband, Corey and they are expecting their first child on Thanksgiving Day 2009.
