The Pilates Method
Pilates is a method of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920’s that strengthens and tones the entire body. The movements are flowing, precise and challenging, and rely on a “mind-body” connection. It’s this mind-body connection that makes pilates effective and defines what pilates truly is — mindful, controlled movements.
The pilates exercises and pilates equipment were designed to effectively develop the overall body, improving stamina, posture, alignment and core strength. Pilates exercises allow weaker muscles to develop rather than allowing the body to rely on stronger muscles to do all the work. Pilate exercises emphasize the core muscles first (specifically abdominals, butt and inner thighs) but also condition and lengthen the rest of the body.
