Pilates
The Pilates Method
Pilates is a method of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920’s that strengthens and tones the entire body. The movements are flowing, precise and challenging, and rely on a “mind-body” connection. It’s this mind-body connection that makes pilates effective and defines what pilates truly is — mindful, controlled movements.

The pilates exercises and pilates equipment were designed to effectively develop the overall body, improving stamina, posture, alignment and core strength. Pilates exercises allow weaker muscles to develop rather than allowing the body to rely on stronger muscles to do all the work. Pilate exercises emphasize the core muscles first (specifically abdominals, butt and inner thighs) but also condition and lengthen the rest of the body. This achieves and maintains a balanced and aligned body.

Benefits of Pilates
The Pilates method is an effective routine for anyone who wants to tone or improve his or her overall well-being. Everybody including men and women, athletes, new mothers, office workers, the physically active and people with injuries have all experienced the benefits of pilates.

Pilates will:
  • Elongate muscles without building bulk
  • Slim problem areas like hips, buttocks and thighs
  • Strengthen the back by building support in the abdominals
  • Increase flexibility
  • Improve posture, coordination circulation and overall health
  • Lower risk of injuries by eliminating tension and stress on joints, back and neck
  • Increase range of motion
  • Promote relaxation and well-being
